| History of the Jones Trust
The Jones Trust is an exempt operating
foundation, established in 1994. the Trust owns three
buildings in Springdale, Arkansas (Washington County), which
previously housed the headquarters, truck terminal, and
truck repair shop of the Jones Truck Line (JTL) founded by
Harvey and Bernice Jones. When JTL was sold, the majority of
the proceeds and the buildings were placed into the Trust.
The buildings were completely renovated in 1995 and now
house more than forty nonprofit organizations.
In October 2008, Mercy Health Systems of Northwest Arkansas
donated the former Mercy-St.Mary's hospital facility to the
Jones Trust for the establishment of a Center for
Nonprofits. This donation provides a unique opportunity to
expand the vision of the Jones Trust into Benton County and
develop a partnership that will be a regional example for
sustainability through the re-use of the buildings,
increased operating efficiencies, and increased service
capacity for the nonprofit tenants.
The Jones Trust is embarking upon an ambitious and vitally
important project of developing and sustaining a Nonprofit
Center in Benton County, uniting many of the area's
nonprofit programs and activities under one roof. The Center
will serve as the hub for a diverse group of nonprofit
organizations working to better the quality of life for the
residents in the regions. Following national trends and
taking advantage of impressive available real estate, the
Center will enable allied organizations to:
- Share space to minimize costs.
- Exchange ideas and resources.
- Collaborate to promote program
efficiency.
- Provide critical services more
conveniently to our residents.
- Expand to meet the growing needs of
our diverse communities.
